Come join the Kelli Cox Collaborative as they celebrate the music of Horace Silver. Silver has been influential on many musicians including Ransey Lewis, Bobby Timmons, Al Foster, and many horn players such as Blue Mitchell, Art Farmer, Randy and Michael Brecker, and Joe Henderson. Silver was instrumental in starting the hard bop style (less elaborate harmony than Be bop but more emphasis on blues and melody) and while playing piano in his own quartet, he is better recognized as a great composer. Silver mainly used a quartet but was such an influential composer that many sextets took his tunes one step further as we will be doing tonight.

The Collaborative is composed of musicians Steve Herrman (North Texas graduate, Delbert McClinton, Lyle Lovett), Greg Cox (North Texas and Univ of Miami, Onzy Matthews, One o clock Big Band), Zach Tyler (MTSU, Duffy Jackson, Jeff Tain Watts) Chris Autry (Belmont, Mandy Barnett, Roy Agee Nonet), Miles Damaso (MTSU, Joel Frahm, Pat Coil) and Kelli Cox (Univ of Miami, Ed Calle, Jon Hendricks , John Birdsong).
